GiPON by June in 22 districts, Alap on 26 March : MD BTCL

Bangladesh Telecommunication Company (BTCL) has introduced Gigabyte Passive Optical Network- GiPON internet service through the optical fiber and the services will be available in 22 districts by June 2021. At the same time, IP Calling App 'Alap' of BTCL is going to be inaugurated on 26 March 2021, informed Dr Md. Rafiqul Matin, MD BTCL while attending a Facebook live program on Thursday and addressing the opinions, complaints, and suggestions from customers of BTCL. 'In initial stages, GiPON internet service has been made available in Khilgaon and Banashri of Dhaka, Rajshahi Metropolitan area, Khulna Sadar and Faridpur Sadar. The services will be expanded over 22 districts by June, and by next June, the service will cover 42 districts', he informed. 'Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) will be introduced in Upazila level to provide internet services by using GiPON of BTCL even without a telephone connection from now on, he added. He also informed that IP calling App of BTCL will be inaugurated on 26 March, during the celebration of the golden jubilee of independence of Bangladesh. The MD of BTCL also mentioned that 'all the services of BTCL have been digitized, as a result, the customers now can lodge their complaints using online platforms. The questions and suggestions from Facebook live comment box are also considered while BTCL is planning something new', he added.
